Battle Buddies Canine was founded in 2021 by Rob and Nancy Lalande. Rob is a Canadian Armed Forces infantry veteran living with PTSD. He understands firsthand how difficult the return to everyday life can be—and how powerfully the right dog can help.
Our mission is to relieve conditions associated with disability by providing appropriately trained service dogs and related supports to Canadian veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder who require assistance.

Every veteran and every dog is different. BBC uses a thoughtful, needs-based process focused on suitability, safety, training quality and the long-term success of the team.
Veteran Inquiry
Eligible Canadian veterans with documented PTSD can contact BBC to begin a confidential suitability conversation.
Dog Assessment
Potential dogs are assessed for temperament, health, trainability and suitability for the veteran’s needs.
Professional Training
Training may include obedience, public access, individualized PTSD-related tasks and handler instruction.
Placement & Follow-Up
The veteran and dog transition as a working team with continued education, check-ins and training support.
BBC works with Ballistic K9 Canada to provide individualized assessment and training.

Labour Day Weekend at The Ponderosa
Join us for a family-friendly day supporting Canadian veterans and service-dog teams, featuring service-dog presentations, demonstrations, an auction, draws, BBQ, DJ, pipe band, children’s activities and the Wall of Honour.
Vendor fee: $50 CAD. Payment is requested only after approval.

Approximately $25,000 is required to prepare and support each veteran–service dog team. Every contribution, partnership and volunteer hour helps move the next placement forward.

BBC is guided by a five-member volunteer board and supported by approximately 50 active volunteers who believe veterans deserve practical, compassionate support.
Our commitment
BBC selects recipients using needs-based criteria, works to protect confidential information, supports humane dog welfare and directs program funding toward approved training and related supports.
Five service-dog teams have already been placed. With community support, the next partnership can begin.
